The Health Insurance Buyers & Brokers Coalition was founded by two nonprofit associations:  the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors of Maryland (NAIFA-MD).  1,300 Maryland small businesses comprise the membership of MAHU & NAIFA-MD.  They provide health insurance, employee benefits and related services to a substantial percentage of Maryland citizens.  Today, MAHU and NAIFA-MD members are assisting their clients in dealing with the major changes in their lives brought about by the passage of federal health care reform.
For anyone concerned about the impact of this new law, the Coalition was created to serve as a resource.   The Coalition's primary focus will be on one feature of the law:   the requirement that Maryland create an insurance exchange to sell insurance to its citizens.

The scope of this undertaking is breathtaking - the exchange will be selling insurance to hundreds of thousands Marylanders.   It will be larger than some insurance companies.   The effect of the exchange on the private insurance market - where you have your health insurance now - is unknown.   HIBBC and its members want to protect your right to maintain your current health insurance and representation without interference from any third party.   To do so, we must put in place the right public policies for this new, government created entity.

The stakes are high. Please take a moment to find out more about HIBBC.
